Book one of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy

New Adult Paranormal Romance

299 pages

by D.T. Dyllin

For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.

To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.

As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.

My Review – Hidden Gates
*I am going to first start out, since I am reviewing all 3 books, that I am going to try to omit any spoilers because that would just take away from the overall reading experience*
When I first started reading Hidden Gates I thought to myself – “Oh no! Not another high school, teenage, love story”.  But, as I continued reading it was not long until I figured out that this book was VERY different and had SO much more to offer both in content and talent.
P.J. and Bryn seem like ordinary high school students but are part of an ancient race with rules, traditions and great power.  The two of them have been best friends since early childhood – inseparable.  But, one night changes everything forever.  P.J. and Bryn find themselves thrust into their world like never before and set on a path of discovery, heartbreak, challenges, danger, trust, friendship, duty, desire and love.
This book captured my heart for many reasons – it was a quick and easy read, taking me a little over 2 days to finish, the flow was smooth and dynamic, the characters were engaging and memorable (Kohl especially) and the plot was well thought out and executed – slight cliffhanger at then end so be sure to read on!!  I really cannot say anything negative about this book but I thought at times it felt like some impactful scenes were a little rushed and what I thought were minor scenes were a little drawn out.  I give Hidden Gates 4.5/5 stars!!

My favorite teaser from Hidden Gates – Just for a brief moment I swore I saw fire dance behind the black irises of Kohl’s eyes.  Instead of being afraid, I felt myself being drawn closer to him, like I was a moth and his flames compelled me to touch him. I reached out and pressed my thumbs on the outside corners of his eyes. “What are you?” I murmered as he slid his eyelids closed, a small tremor running through him.
“Someone who can’t seem to get control of himself when I’m around you.” His voice was almost hoarse.  “Your power sings to mine, like calls to like, and I desire nothing more than to forget my honor and claim you for my own when I am with you.”
Book two of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy
New Adult Paranormal Romance
241 pages

P.J. Stone is a Seer who saw too little, too late.

In the past, her biggest worries were boys and school—but war has a way of changing things. Now, the alien Riders are trying to overrun the world. As the last of their kind, P.J. and her friends must find a way to save humanity before there’s nothing left to save.

After choosing a mate, P.J. hoped she’d have time to enjoy her love life. But with everything changing so quickly and major secrets revealed, who knows what the future will bring?

My Review – Broken Gates

The author continues the trilogy with the same style of writing that I loved from the first book but adds in a bit more action, adventure, twists, turns, surprises and one hell of an ending.  Book 2 in the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy was so much more intense and exciting than the first book that it took me like 5 hours to devour it.  Again, going with my no spoiler promise from the first book, all I can say is that you, the reader, are in for one wild, passionate ride with this book.

This book really focuses on the emotional growth of the characters and how they develop and mature especially P.J.  Since she is the only one experiencing these visions, the whole world rests on her shoulders and she is forced to make decisions based on visions that are pieces of a bigger puzzle.  She, along with her small circle of trusted friends, has to  figure out the meaning of the visions before it is too late to save the human race from the “aliens”.

P.J. is also dealing with her emerging powers and the feelings she has for Bryn and Kohl.  That is one serious love triangle going on and the way the author expresses their intertwining feelings is amazing.  The tension, passion and love is very palpable and I can only tell you to have the cold water & tissues handy – you will be both dousing the flames and crying your eyes out!

5/5 Stars!!

Teaser Quote – “I love you too,” I croaked.  He then tilted my head back and claimed my lips with a tenderness that spoke of a forever kind of love…our kind of love…always.

Book three of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy

New Adult Paranormal Romance

by D.T. Dyllin

Bryn is gone. Jenna isn’t…herself, and the world has been taken over by the alien Riders. The only constant in P.J.’s life is Khol. But even he might not be able to help her pick up the shattered pieces of her life.
P.J. finally gets the answers to all of her questions, but will she be able to handle the truth? And will she be strong enough to face her own destiny when the time comes?
My Review – Open Gates
Open Gates expected publication date is November 12, 2013 so I feel very fortunate that I was privledged to get an ARC of this wonderful continuation of what has to be one of my favorite trilogies!!
P.J.’s life is in utter turmoil and the heartbreak she feels goes to the very core of her soul.  Will she recover from this unspeakable loss and do what she was born to do or will she let the darkness overtake her and all those she loves?  Her emotions are up and down, hot and cold and Kohl is trying his best to console her, love her and make her understand that her life is not over but only just beginning.  P.J. wants nothing more but revenge and to wallow in her own despair but Kohl has other ideas or desires as it may be and will stop at nothing to make P.J. his again. *The passion that ignites between these two in this book is to die for*
Despite her many troubles and heartbreak P.J. still has a duty to save the world, her friends and family and must find the strength to do just that.  In this book she discovers even more about herself and what she must do to end this war and fulfill her destiny.  This book is filled with just as many twists & turns as Book 2 and much will be revealed to P.J. in this book.
I loved that the author made P.J. a character of strength, perseverance, courage and loyalty – she has grown immensely from a girl into a woman over the three books and that is seldom the case with many characters today.  She has made many choices throughout her life but in this book the very important life changing, time altering choice she will make will affect all that she knows and loves. It is a huge decision and if she was still the girl from book 1 I think she would have chosen wrong.
I really cannot say much more without major spoilers but I will leave you with this thought – shame on you if you do not read this series!!!! Whether you love fantasy, romance or the paranormal this series has a bit of everything for everyone.  Have I mentioned there are dragons in this book??  I must have left that part out…happy reading.
5/5 stars!!
