**My Review** Embracing Death

I thought Feeling Death was amazing but Embracing Death by D.T. Dyllin was out of this world amazing.  As with the Gates Trilogy the author is able to weave a complex story into an entertaining thrill ride.  There are twists and turns, good guys vs bad guys and just enough sex to turn you on and keep you turning the page.

In this book Sam is at a crossroads and the choices she makes or doesn’t make impacts not only her life but the lives of those she loves.  I loved that the author makes you think you know what is going on in this story but the curveballs keep coming!  I love Sam’s complexity, Austin’s sexiness and Nixon’s persistence – read the story and you will find out what I mean.

D.T. Dyllin is by far, one of my favorite authors this year.  Her style of writing really makes for a great reading experience.  I can’t explain it well but every page has a different feel to – you get a myriad of themes & emotions throughout the book.  There is a little of a cliffhanger in this book which I’m pretty sure means that book 3 is in the works.  Right?

**5/5 Stars**

Samantha Bevans is having the best sex of her life, but not with her husband. As an empath who senses other people’s emotions, isn’t her affair all in her mind? Her connection to the man with the the chiseled face and haunting eyes seems so real. But there’s no time for fantasies when a serial killer loose in Pittsburgh begins targeting dancers at a strip club where Samantha used to tend bar, back when drugs were the only cure for the torment brought on by her abilities. Now a member of a special task force, Samantha uses her talents to help with the investigation by sensing the victims’ final thoughts. Just when she thought the case was complex enough, she discovers one of the victims was thinking about her fantasy man when she died. Readers will yearn for more in this spine-tingling ride through death, blood, murder, mystery, and passion, as Samantha questions who she can trust when she can’t trust her own mind. After all, an empath feels the emotional environment around her . . . and Samantha is surrounded by death.

**My Review**Feeling Death

An Empath is a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual.  In Feeling Death by D.T. Dyllin we are introduced to Samantha Bevans, an empath, who can sense the last moments of a person’s life.  This special ability makes her both an asset and a target especially when there is a sadistic murderer on the loose.  Not to mention that this type of power is like a drug – addictive & powerful.  Not only can she sense what happens in death but in life as well.  Married to the man of her dreams, or so she thought, she finds herself erotically drawn to a man she’s never met but lusts after in her mind.

D.T. Dyllin has done it again!! This is one book that I couldn’t put down for a second and when I absolutely had to I kept thinking about the deliciously complex characters and kick a** mind warping plot.  If you like to “think” when you read and love mystery, passion, and a bit of the paranormal then this book is a must read!!  I cant wait to be sucked into Sam, Austin & Nixon’s world in Book 2 – Embracing Death!

**5/5 stars**

Howling Heart by April Bostic – Review

Title: The Howling Heart

Author: April Bostic

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Published on August 8, 2013 by Eternal Press

Length: 220 pages

Synopsis:

Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who aspires to reach the top of the corporate ladder. She’s climbing fast when given the promotion of a lifetime at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. Her bright future comes to an unexpected halt after news of her father’s death. She inherits his old cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and just when she thinks her luck couldn’t get any worse, she has a car accident in the mountains and awakens in the small, remote community of Black River.

Soon, she’s engulfed in the mystical world of Varulv—wolves descended from 13th century Scandinavia and blessed by Norse gods with the ability to appear human. Paige is desperate to return home, but never expects to fall for her rescuer, Riley Gray, a charming young werewolf from England who offers her an alternate future with his pack.

Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.

Excerpt:

Riley walked away and took a few steps toward the river. With his back facing me, he stood while looking at the waterfall. It was a beautiful scene—his tall, shirtless body with his blonde hair tousled and gently blowing in the wind. He took another step and surprised me by kicking off his boots. Then, he leaned down and rolled up his pant legs. He jogged over to a cluster of large rocks, his footing quick and poised, and sat with his bare feet dangling in the water.

I yelled out, “Is it safe to do that?”

He looked at me and laughed lightly. “Yeah, it’s safe. Do you think there are piranhas or crocodiles in the river?” He continued to chuckle, and a toothy smile broke free on my face. “Don’t worry. There isn’t anything deadly in these waters—just harmless fish, frogs, and Northern Water snakes. They won’t hurt you.” He beckoned to me. “Come over here and join me. The water is nice and cool.” He kicked his feet, making splashes in the water.

I was hesitant to join him, but the water intrigued me. I decided to trust him, so I walked over to the rocks. They were flat, smooth, and slick. My steps were wobbly as I tried to avoid getting a foot stuck in the cracks or slipping on the moss. Once I stood next to him, he looked up at me with a wide smile. I removed my sneakers, peeled off my socks, and rolled up my sweatpants. Riley was right. The water was pleasantly cool and refreshing.

He kicked his feet again, this time making a bigger splash. I tried to outdo him, but my smaller feet were no match for his large ones. We laughed together, but the rushing water overpowered the harmonious sound.

I stole a glance at him while he looked at the river. He leaned back casually on his elbows, and I couldn’t help but admire his six-pack abs and toned chest. Little, brown moles spotted his torso, and I imagined playing connect-the-dots with my tongue. His skin enticed me, and I wanted to run my hands all over it. A lustful feeling washed over me, and I swallowed thickly, averting my gaze.

Riley chuckled low in his throat, and I knew he caught me staring. His hand touched my lower back, and I looked at him over my shoulder. A grin spread across his lips as he tugged the shirt hem.

“This is my shirt, isn’t it?” My eyes widened, and I whipped my head around. In less than two seconds, my face flushed with heat.

“Um, yes,” I mumbled. “Sorry. I borrowed it, because Quinn’s clothes were too small for me, and I didn’t feel comfortable browsing through Celia’s wardrobe.” The latter reason was a lie. I was just  determined to cover
myself with his clothes.

“No worries. I don’t mind,” he soothed. “You can borrow whatever you want. What’s mine is yours, love.”

I turned my head slightly to peek at him, grateful his focus was still on the shirt. I recalled the words he spoke earlier. “Let’s say hypothetically I did stay here with you. How would we be together when I’m human and you’re a wolf?” “If you’re referring to us being biologically compatible, Máni and Freya blessed us, so we can breed with humans.”

His foot brushed against mine under the water. It came back a second time and then a third. He sat up and scooted closer to me, until our thighs were touching. I looked over at him and almost fell into his seafoam pools. I had to regain control before I did something I would regret…like lean over and kiss those bee-stung lips.

**My Review**

Howling Heart by April Bostic is a tale of love, loss, regret, forgiveness and friendship – werewolf style.  It seems that Paige has always been mysteriously drawn to her family’s cabin in Black River.  As a child strange things happened to her and upon her return as an adult things become even more strange.  After an accident that leaves her temporarily unable to care for herself she awakes in the home of a gorgeous man hell bent on making her stay with him and despite her growing suspicion that there is more to Riley and his family than they care to tell, she find herself falling for his charming ways.  After a brief yet steamy courtship Paige finds herself submerged in pack law, hierarchy and politics.

The author did a great job with this story and although it was typical of how many stories about werewolves are told she did add in her own twists here and there.  The characters were memorable and I liked the way she gave each one their own distinct personality.  The story was descriptive and kept me interested right up until the very end.  If you are looking for a quick and enjoyable paranormal read and love werewolf lore than this story is for you.  It is also a great book if you are a first time reader of paranormal romance involving werewolves – not too over the top in my opinion.  I think certain aspects of the story could have been elaborated on more thoroughly while other aspects not as much but it did not distract from the plot and main storyline.

I would definitely love to read a follow up to Riley and Paige’s story and hope the author considers another book or 2.  I give this book 4/5 stars!!

Theirs To Play by Kenya Wright – Book Blitz

Theirs To Play - Version 1 - High Resolution
Title: Theirs to Play (Billionaire Games)
Genre: Adult Erotic Romance
Author: Kenya Wright
Blurb:
Two billionaire brothers enjoy twisted games where women are the sport. They find a female, date her, and compete to see who can bed her first.
Too bad they picked the wrong one this time. Dawn’s too smart for their verbal play and too quick to get trapped by clever ploys.
The more the brothers work to capture her heart, the more they discover she might not be theirs to play.

Excerpt:

Max’s POV

She rubbed her hands together. “So I’m your game for tonight?”

“No, Dawn.” Hunger laced my brother’s Freddy’s voice. It was the subtle change in his tone that happened right before he decided to take a woman to his bed. “You’re the game for this summer.”

Her expression didn’t break, never faltered or changed. She leaned in closer to him and licked her lips. I could’ve sworn I heard Freddy growl or maybe I’d done it myself. Her confidence did something to me, it lassoed my senses in, made me want to touch my dick and do nasty things.

“If you think you can last the whole summer with me involved in your little game, then you’re not as smart as I thought. Are you Freddy?” She moved in closer. Her breast hovered beautifully over the table. Her face was half a foot from his.

Freddy gripped the table so hard; I could see the whites forming around his fingertips. “You like saying my nickname don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Get used to it, you’ll be moaning it soon.”

“Hmm.
You’ll have to earn a moan from me, sweet Freddy. You’re not the first rich guy I’ve met and you won’t be the last.” She sat back in her seat.

Drawn to him despite his unconventional arrival, Kate must answer his question: “Can you allow yourself this indulgence? It’s just one night.”

Excerpt:

“Julian, my love, I watch as you endure the pains of the turning. Your sweating chest is heaving, trying to breathe. So tragic, the short, ragged pants. The quakes of the death rattle seizing you. Your strong, shivering body rising from the ground, only to fall again. Hands which held me so tenderly, now shaking and reaching out. I can’t help you. I’ve done all I can for us. Your poor heart making every attempt to keep your body alive, but it will fail, my love. I see the scythe above your brow. You die tonight. You live tonight. We will be together. I heard your words of love as you took me. The language of love spoken fluently and with an affinity I’ve never experienced in the past. I know now my lovers before were mere players at love, but you swore yourself to me to be true. I’ve believed so many others, only to be cast aside, but how could you love me so thoroughly, bringing me to peaks with every touch, if it were not sincere? Such care you took with my pleasure. I asked if you wanted me and you said, ‘Always.’ Your earnest eyes showed me your truth. Your wish is granted for eternity.”

The Babysitter is an erotic novella at 15,000 words.
Excerpt
Chapter 1
In my guest room, Blake caresses my neck and surrounds me with his scent, a haunting mixture of rosemary and lavender, so subtle, yet sure to sink into my sheets, so that I can smell him minutes after he leaves and goes to his sleeping wife. We lay in each others’ arms. Candlelight flickers across his bare chest. Shadows hide half of his chiseled face. We haven’t even taken all our clothes off yet, but I’m already dreading the moment he’ll have to go.
Why did his wife come back?
I worked with him for one year. It took the whole time for him to get himself up to our first kiss, which just happened two weeks ago.
I need more than kisses. I’ve waited for too long already.
Usually we hang out in my room until the sun comes up, watching movies and drifting slowly into sleep. Once dawn arrives, he would wake himself up and sneak back into his room so his two kids wouldn’t see him departing from mine.
But his wife just returned after leaving him for another man for the second time in their marriage. There won’t be any cuddling together tonight. She wants to try and make things work, maybe see if they can start again.
No. You had many chances. Now it’s my turn and I want him all to myself.
But as the days continue, it doesn’t seem like I’ll get my way. It is his wife after all, regardless of whether she hurt him or not. His love for her is still there. I catch the emotion in his eyes as he talks to her about his day over dinner each night. It’s in his fingers when he squeezes her hand and places a gentle peck on her cheek. Their love, no matter how cracked and distorted still thickens the air in the house and makes it hard for me to breathe.
What will happen to him and me?
I gaze at Blake now as he studies the curve of my neck and how my vanilla flesh shivers with each massage of his hands. He doesn’t look the same, not like the other times he’s come to me, before she returned. Anticipation doesn’t radiate from him, just desire and subtle hints of regret.
Or maybe I’m just imagining it all.
