Book Description:

Seductive Secrecy (book #2)

With a shadow cast over the mansion, can Charlie and Cameron overcome the destruction of their pasts and rebuild their future, or will the revelation of painful, shocking secrets pull them back into the darkness?

**My Review**

I highly anticipated the sequel to Seductive Shadows because the first book was so deliciously good and I must say that the author did not disappoint me!  I must start out by saying that if you have not read Seductive Shadows please do so before reading Seductive Secrecy – it will make the whole wonderful experience much better and you won’t feel as if you have been left completely in the dark.

Speaking of the dark – darkness is a main theme throughout these books. It seems to always surround the main character, Cee aka Charlie, in the first book and although it creeps around her throughout the second book you get a sense that it is dissipating slowly but surely.  She is an intrinsically strong character despite what she has been through emotionally and physically.  I can only use the cliche butterfly analogy to convey what Charlie undergoes from book 1 to 2.  A metamorphosis from an ugly caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly!

Charlie and Cameron are two very beautifully crafted characters – sexy, intricate, artistic, insecure, alluring, broken, flawed and strong.  They complement each other like pieces to a puzzle and have this amazing chemistry together and there is nothing that can destroy what they have worked so hard to build – not the demons of the past, present struggles or future uncertainties.

“Cameron…my dawn.  He had broken through the darkness-my darkness-and pulled me from its depths.  I wasn’t necessarily standing under the sun yet, or even beneath a mostly-clear sky strewn with clouds, but I was here and he was one of the reasons for that.”

This review was exceptionally hard for me to write for some reason without tons of spoilers for those who have not read the first book.  I must say that the author’s writing is exceptional to say the least.  Her vivid descriptions have a way of transporting you to “a scene” in the book and it is almost as if you can touch, taste and feel what is going on in that moment.  The main characters are my favorite but you cannot count out the brilliant new and returning secondary characters – they add flavor, mystery and intrigue.  Another thumbs up to the author for the amazing plot development and overall flow of the story over the course of the two books.  The themes remained true, issues were resolved and the ending was everything I was hoping for –  IT ROCKED!!

“Your dawn?” I repeated.  “Have you found it?”………….”Not only have I found my dawn,” he said, “but she’s agreed to be mine forever.”

**5/5 Stars**

Seductive Shadows (book #1)

Charlie is a passionate, sensually-inspired art student, desperately seeking an escape from the abusive past that haunts her and a tragic accident that emptied her heart. Scarred and unable to love, her yearning for physical pleasure leads her into a tantalizing, dangerous world of power and seduction. The anonymity of the deal offers security; the money brings financial freedom and the madam is the mother figure she longs for.

But the thrill of the mansion and its arousing dominance quickly fades when she meets renowned-yet-mysterious Cameron Hardy, whose intense baby blue eyes send a nervous flutter through her core. Cameron is sexy, and not in a subtle way. He stimulates Charlie’s art, her intellect and her desires. Just as he begins to break through her emotional boundaries, she discovers a devastating connection between her past and her scandalous work at the mansion, shattering everything she thought to be true.

Provocative, intoxicating and erotic, Seductive Shadows is the unforgettable tale of a young woman’s self-discovery as she learns to forgive, to love and be loved, and to find redemption amidst a remarkable journey that will captivate your mind and stimulate your soul.

R.K. Ryals Double Cover Reveal & Giveaway – Cursed & Possessed (The Thorne Trilogy Book 1 & 2)

Cursed (The Thorne Trilogy Book I)
by R.K. Ryals
Cover by Eden Crane Designs
A grimoire. A witch. A Demon.
Ellie Elizabeth Jacobs, often known as Monroe due to her fascination with
vintage attire and old movies, is an 18 year-old witch and a darned good one!
But there is also something very wrong with her. Demonic energy makes her
powers stronger, she has the ability to ward off Demons, and Lucifer wants her.Sometimes being bad is better. Or at least that’s how Luther “Thorne”
Craig feels. The hybrid Demon son of the cursed Cain and the Demon Lilith,
Luther is reluctantly sent to New Orleans, Louisiana by his brother, the hybrid
Demon ruler of the Outer Levels of Hell, to protect Monroe from Lucifer’s
searching Hellhounds. But what happens when things go wrong? In this riveting spin off from R.K. Ryals’ Redemption series, Monroe is faced
with an old grimoire, an ancient curse, and a journey to discover a family
secret that may surprise them all.
“Can I see that?” NeeCee asked suddenly, and I looked up to find her standing over me, her hand outstretched, her gaze on the grimoire.

I narrowed my eyes. “Why?”

NeeCee sighed. “I think I know something that may help you.”

I felt myself start to panic and tamped it down. The only thing worse than dust (I’m a slight neat freak) was Bernice’s gift for inadvertently abusing magic.

“I don’t know— ”

“Oh for God’s sake!” NeeCee said irritably before snatching the book out of my hand.

I tried grabbing for it and failed.

“NeeCee …” I warned.

She ignored me, dancing around different glass displays, her eyes on the book. She was naturally clumsy, but inside a store she’d practically been born into, she had the grace of a gazelle. It worked against me.

She paused abruptly, twisting so that her stomach was against a display of dried herbs, her index finger moving down a page. The display between us was too thick for me to see the parchment clearly, and I started edging toward her, my heart beating fast.

“NeeCee …” I warned again, my teeth gritted.

She grinned. “Look! It’s a reversal spell. This could help, you know. And it’s simple.”

She lifted a candle from a cabinet behind her and lit it. It was black.

I blew the wick out.

“No!” I cried. “There is no way in hell I am letting you perform anything on me. Understand?”

Bernice frowned, her forehead creased. “You really have that little confidence in me?”

I could hear the hurt in her voice, and I felt a pang of sympathy. Truly I did, but I wasn’t about to let it affect my judgment.

“I have plenty of confidence in you, NeeCee, but these are old spells. They are unpredictable. Extremelyunpredictable.”

Bernice lit the candle again and moved it behind her, her finger trailing the page. She turned, facing me.

“Quae mea tua sunt, tua mea sunt quid . . .” she proceeded stubbornly, her chin raised, her eyes large and confident behind her spectacles.

The words were Latin. I recognized them instantly and cringed, jumping onto the display case, my blue dress riding all the way up to my hip. At this point, I didn’t give a flip if a customer came in right now and got an eye full of my black low-rise panties. I just wanted the dead blasted grimoire.

“NeeCee, no!” I shouted, just as the black candle behind her exploded, ebony wax falling onto the wooden surface around it.

I covered my face, but even though the blast sounded loud inside the store, there was no collateral damage. The only outwardly disturbing sign was a small, perfect wax circle made of six black spots on the worn wood around the scarlet glass candleholder. I winced. Bernice froze.

“NeeCee,” I whispered.

“Yeah?” she muttered.

I stared at the ruined workstation as the grimoire fell to the floor at Bernice’s feet. “That wasn’t a reversal spell.”

Expected Release – November, 2013

Synopsis:Calling a Demon forth wasn’t the wisest thing the Ayer’s witches have ever done.  For centuries, the Ayers have been slaves of the Demon Lilith, one Ayers witch destined to do her will while another was sacrificed to the Hunters. But Monroe Jacobs has changed the rules …A witch from the Ayers’ line, Monroe’s powers have always been connected to Demons and now she knows why. Once a slave to Lilith, she has thrown off her blood ties to the Demon queen by calling on her son, the hybrid-Demon, Luther. Now Monroe must discover what it means to be a witch while fighting off demonic possession. For Luther “Thorne” Craig, his attraction to the witch, Monroe, isn’t just a complication, it’s a distraction. He’s always been happy with his life, serving the denizens of Hell while living flamboyantly, but now he’s declared war on his mother and Lilith won’t rest until she sees him dead.Armed with her own book of shadows, Monroe is dragged into a civil war between mother and son while Luther fights his demonic need to truly possess her.
“You should cast spells skyclad,” he murmured.A flush worked its way up my neck, the image of me unclothed inside a circle stark in my head. I’d never done a spell skyclad. Even my initiation had been done fully clothed.I glared at him. “You’re right. You are a monster.”He chuckled. “Be bad for me, witch. You might find you like it.”bebad

P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy by D.T. Dyllin – Trilogy Review!!

Book one of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy

New Adult Paranormal Romance

299 pages

by D.T. Dyllin

For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.

To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.

As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.

My Review – Hidden Gates
*I am going to first start out, since I am reviewing all 3 books, that I am going to try to omit any spoilers because that would just take away from the overall reading experience*
When I first started reading Hidden Gates I thought to myself – “Oh no! Not another high school, teenage, love story”.  But, as I continued reading it was not long until I figured out that this book was VERY different and had SO much more to offer both in content and talent.
P.J. and Bryn seem like ordinary high school students but are part of an ancient race with rules, traditions and great power.  The two of them have been best friends since early childhood – inseparable.  But, one night changes everything forever.  P.J. and Bryn find themselves thrust into their world like never before and set on a path of discovery, heartbreak, challenges, danger, trust, friendship, duty, desire and love.
This book captured my heart for many reasons – it was a quick and easy read, taking me a little over 2 days to finish, the flow was smooth and dynamic, the characters were engaging and memorable (Kohl especially) and the plot was well thought out and executed – slight cliffhanger at then end so be sure to read on!!  I really cannot say anything negative about this book but I thought at times it felt like some impactful scenes were a little rushed and what I thought were minor scenes were a little drawn out.  I give Hidden Gates 4.5/5 stars!!
My favorite teaser from Hidden Gates – Just for a brief moment I swore I saw fire dance behind the black irises of Kohl’s eyes.  Instead of being afraid, I felt myself being drawn closer to him, like I was a moth and his flames compelled me to touch him. I reached out and pressed my thumbs on the outside corners of his eyes. “What are you?” I murmered as he slid his eyelids closed, a small tremor running through him.
“Someone who can’t seem to get control of himself when I’m around you.” His voice was almost hoarse.  “Your power sings to mine, like calls to like, and I desire nothing more than to forget my honor and claim you for my own when I am with you.”
Book two of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy
New Adult Paranormal Romance
241 pages

P.J. Stone is a Seer who saw too little, too late.

In the past, her biggest worries were boys and school—but war has a way of changing things. Now, the alien Riders are trying to overrun the world. As the last of their kind, P.J. and her friends must find a way to save humanity before there’s nothing left to save.

After choosing a mate, P.J. hoped she’d have time to enjoy her love life. But with everything changing so quickly and major secrets revealed, who knows what the future will bring?

My Review – Broken Gates

The author continues the trilogy with the same style of writing that I loved from the first book but adds in a bit more action, adventure, twists, turns, surprises and one hell of an ending.  Book 2 in the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy was so much more intense and exciting than the first book that it took me like 5 hours to devour it.  Again, going with my no spoiler promise from the first book, all I can say is that you, the reader, are in for one wild, passionate ride with this book.

This book really focuses on the emotional growth of the characters and how they develop and mature especially P.J.  Since she is the only one experiencing these visions, the whole world rests on her shoulders and she is forced to make decisions based on visions that are pieces of a bigger puzzle.  She, along with her small circle of trusted friends, has to  figure out the meaning of the visions before it is too late to save the human race from the “aliens”.

P.J. is also dealing with her emerging powers and the feelings she has for Bryn and Kohl.  That is one serious love triangle going on and the way the author expresses their intertwining feelings is amazing.  The tension, passion and love is very palpable and I can only tell you to have the cold water & tissues handy – you will be both dousing the flames and crying your eyes out!

5/5 Stars!!

Teaser Quote – “I love you too,” I croaked.  He then tilted my head back and claimed my lips with a tenderness that spoke of a forever kind of love…our kind of love…always.

Book three of the P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy

New Adult Paranormal Romance

by D.T. Dyllin

Bryn is gone. Jenna isn’t…herself, and the world has been taken over by the alien Riders. The only constant in P.J.’s life is Khol. But even he might not be able to help her pick up the shattered pieces of her life.
P.J. finally gets the answers to all of her questions, but will she be able to handle the truth? And will she be strong enough to face her own destiny when the time comes?
My Review – Open Gates
Open Gates expected publication date is November 12, 2013 so I feel very fortunate that I was privledged to get an ARC of this wonderful continuation of what has to be one of my favorite trilogies!!
P.J.’s life is in utter turmoil and the heartbreak she feels goes to the very core of her soul.  Will she recover from this unspeakable loss and do what she was born to do or will she let the darkness overtake her and all those she loves?  Her emotions are up and down, hot and cold and Kohl is trying his best to console her, love her and make her understand that her life is not over but only just beginning.  P.J. wants nothing more but revenge and to wallow in her own despair but Kohl has other ideas or desires as it may be and will stop at nothing to make P.J. his again. *The passion that ignites between these two in this book is to die for*
Despite her many troubles and heartbreak P.J. still has a duty to save the world, her friends and family and must find the strength to do just that.  In this book she discovers even more about herself and what she must do to end this war and fulfill her destiny.  This book is filled with just as many twists & turns as Book 2 and much will be revealed to P.J. in this book.
I loved that the author made P.J. a character of strength, perseverance, courage and loyalty – she has grown immensely from a girl into a woman over the three books and that is seldom the case with many characters today.  She has made many choices throughout her life but in this book the very important life changing, time altering choice she will make will affect all that she knows and loves. It is a huge decision and if she was still the girl from book 1 I think she would have chosen wrong.
I really cannot say much more without major spoilers but I will leave you with this thought – shame on you if you do not read this series!!!! Whether you love fantasy, romance or the paranormal this series has a bit of everything for everyone.  Have I mentioned there are dragons in this book??  I must have left that part out…happy reading.
5/5 stars!!

I turn to face him; he puts his other arm around me. We are in the same position as before when the last kiss attempt failed. My arms are tight around his neck, his arms around my waist. I look down. He lifts up my chin so I’m lost in his gaze. His hand goes back to my waist. He swallows; I think he’s as nervous as I am. He tilts his head and leans in … I back away quickly.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, looking hurt.

“Oh, no, it’s not you. I think … I might have garlic breath.”

He laughs and pulls me back to him. “So do I.” He pulls me in tighter, and before I know what’s happening, his lips are on mine. I give in and surrender to him completely.

This feels like one of my fantasies, only way, way better. He holds me tight as one hand moves from my waist to caress my cheek, kissing me softly but sensually. My hands move to the back of his head, and I grab a lock of hair in each hand. He moves our bodies so that I’m against the railing at the edge of the deck. He moves his hand from my waist to hold the rail as I still grasp his hair. The kissing becomes feverishly passionate; his tongue against mine as they intertwine with each other. Our breathing becomes faster and erratic. Our kissing becomes more intimate. We are in perfect sync with each other. I pull him closer to me, our whole bodies touching. My heart is pounding fast and hard. His hand moves from my face to the back of my head, pulling me tight. He moves my hair from the side of my neck, breaks our kiss and kisses my neck slowly and seductively. I sigh and breathe in a stuttering motion. I open my eyes to see the waitress standing there, gawking at us. I stiffen as I see her. He pulls back and looks at me. With my eyes, I gesture toward the waitress. He turns, looks, and lets out a little huff. He leans in towards me.

“Now that’s a first kiss,” he whispers as he grabs my hand and leads me over to the table. I can’t help but smile.
