Something Great by M. Clarke Review & Giveaway

She didn’t know what she was missing…until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was positively trouble, dangerously good-looking, and seductively charming. He was everything Jeanella didn’t need in her life. Only Max didn’t see it that way. His pursuit was relentless, making her even more determined to push him away. All she wanted was security, a career, and love that was everlasting.

Fresh out of college, life was simple and plain for Jeanella Mefferd, but she liked it that way. Every part of her life was smooth sailing; her friends, her job, and even the guy she’d started dating. Then one night, while at dinner with her best friend, she spotted someone who made her feel things she’d never felt before just by his mere presence—dangerous, heart pounding, breathless heat. Thinking she would never see him again, she brushed it off, but when she started to run into him unexpectedly, all she could think of was how he made her feel with his sweet flirtations. Everything about Maxwell Knight screamed trouble, especially when she found out he was her new boss’s son. Now, heading to a New York fashion show she’d dreamt about since she was a child, would she be able to focus on her career instead of Max, who had been scheduled to attend with her? As much as she tried to forget their encounters, his good looks, charm, smooth words, and determination to win her over gravitated her toward him. The next thing she knew, he was utterly consuming her, mind and body, and in places she’d never thought possible. Would she be willing to step over the boundary and risk her safety net?  Was she willing to take advice from her best friend and love hard and risk getting hurt, rather than not really love at all and possibly miss out on finding something great?

My Review

I was very excited to read Something Great by M. Clarke, aka Mary Ting, and jumped at the opportunity to take part in this Blog Tour!  I have read the author’s amazing Crossroads series and wanted to find out if her venture from YA to Adult would be just as impressive.  I am here to attest that she did not disappoint me – this book was just as the title says – SOMETHING GREAT!!

Nowadays, it seems as though anyone can think up a story, write it down, publish it themselves and be called an author – I guess in many ways they are.  But, for me, there is a difference.  Can they craft a story that has you up at all hours reading it? Do you actually begin to feel the same emotions as the characters in the book?  When the book is finished, would you want to read another book that the author has written?  I can honestly say YES to all of these questions in regards to  Something Great.  This book exceeded my expectations in every way!  **5/5 stars**

I fell in love with Jenna and Max’s story and I am sure you will too.  One of the things I liked about the way the author sets up the relationship between Max & Jenna is that they start out as friends and it blossoms into something much more.  They get to know each other before they decide to become romantically involved – this is a story about friendship, romance, letting someone into your heart, finding oneself and discovering that feeling of falling in love.

Here is one of my favorite scenes from Something Great.

“You mean, you’re scared,” he suggested.  “All I’m asking is for one night.”  He approached me again.  “I promise you won’t regret it.”  His fingers slowly brushed through my hair, holding on to the last bit of the strand.  I stood there frozen, hypnotized by his words, by his touch.  His hands moved to my face, gently cupping it as if he was holding a wounded dove, and idly stroking his thumb over my cheeks.  “Women blush around me all the time.  But the women who throw themselves at me don’t.  I like how I can make your cheeks turn red. It’s different…sweet, yet sexy at the same time…somewhat innocent.”

About the Author:

Mary Ting resides in Southern California with her husband and two children. She enjoys oil painting and making jewelry. Writing her first novel, Crossroads Saga, happened by chance. It was a way to grieve the death of her beloved grandmother, and inspired by a dream she once had as a young girl. When she started reading new adult novels, she fell in love with the genre. It was the reason she had to write one. Why the pen name, M Clarke? She tours with Magic Johnson Foundation to promote literacy and her children’s chapter book, No Bullies Allowed.

  1. This sounds like a very sweet yet intense love story. I like romances that are based on true and real feelings rather then just some temporary fun.
